For assignment 1, the objective was to review how to laser cut and model in rhino.
However, as a key component of laser cutting a closed solid, the ends of the solid would have to meet at 90 degree angles as the acrylic has a certain thickness. Thus, most design concepts that would come out of this would be composed of cubes unless they're glued.
The key design behind my model is basically two cubes screwed to each other. However, I wanted to explore the textures that I could created with etches and a few voids that would influence us to think the clear acrylic is cracked as you can see the cracks on the other side.
Unfortunately there was only one test for me to laser cut and so I didn't realize that the ends would come out so loosely that I would have to glue them together. Utilizing the calipers to the thousandth was a key component to creating a friction fit in this assignment.
