#6__"Fighting with Robots"
As part of our final project in studio, I am studying the properties of a GMA shipping pallet. Manufactured for forklifts, these portable platforms create a highly functional space in between layered 2'x4'. The economy of their design intrigued me to research this void space and use this CNC assignment to build a defense of our studio design concept.

Fitting this extremely precise shape into a viewport and onto a 4'x8'x.5' took some head scratching. At times distraught I sketched simple contours for lamp shades and was halfway through modeling a human bust before returning to my original inspiration. Finding solace in the operational logic of layering, I was able to comprehend the division of space by the thickness of wood provided and applied that factor to the rhino model of the form. Looking back, I should have stuck with the lamp design or the human bust, as the relevance of the negative space of the shipping pallet was not well communicated after the scale was changed. I also should have been focused on the utilizing the ability of the CNC to cut a complex shape in profile or a varied topography.
