One of the
most significant lessons that I took from the hoop house project was planning
ahead in time. One of the components of our project depended heavily on digital
fabrication, and when we realized that we may not have the chance to actually
use the equipment we all had a short moment of panic. We also hadn't anticipated some of the construction details to take so long, and from that we
all learned that everything takes longer in real life, and we need to be
prepared for it. Another valuable lesson learned was the importance of
simplifying, as we were incredibly ambitious in the first couple of designs for
our hoop house, but gradually began to tone down our design for a stronger,
more stable structure. In the end, the simplification yielded a much better
result than what could have been, and our ideas on paper evolved into the massive
structure that we completed.
