I enjoyed this project because I decided that I would focus on the design of the concept rather than what the actual concept really was. The first thing that popped into my head was a center piece for my dinner table at home -- I accepted it and then spent the rest of the un-wasted time designing this thing.
I took the skeletal structure of a bowl - its armature if you will - and went with that form. I used lateral and longitudinal strips of plywood to create the surface. The design's dimensions are proportional to my dinner table (33"x70").
Trouble occurred in the material we used and the narrowness of the wooden strips. Pieces went flying. Chipping occurred in several places but a quick trip to woodshop helped clean up the mess the CNC made. Or I made - not sure which.
I learned from this project that the CNC router is picky with what material it cuts (crappy plywood is a no-go) and the thinner you make your design, the greater the chance of a plywood shard flying in the air and puncturing your eye. Next time...
